Thermal disc emission from a rotating black hole: X-ray polarization signatures
Thermal emission from the accretion disc around a black hole can be polarized, due to Thomson scattering in a disc atmosphere. In Newtonian space, the polarization angle must be either parallel or perpendicular to the projection of the disc axis on the sky. As first pointed out by Stark and Connors in 1977, General Relativity effects strongly modify the polarization properties of the thermal ra...
متن کاملRadiation emitted from a source rotating around a black hole
We analyze the radiation emitted from a scalar source rotating around a Schwarzschild black hole using the frame work of quantum field theory at the tree level. We show that for relativistic circular orbits the emitted power is about 20% to 30% smaller than what would be obtained in Minkowski spacetime. We also show that most of the emitted energy escapes to infinity. Our formalism can readily ...
متن کاملSpinning Particle, Rotating Black Hole and Twistor-string * Rotating Black Hole as Spinning Particle
Structure of the spinning particle based on the rotating black hole solution is considered. It has gyromagnetic ratio g = 2 and a nontriv-ial twistorial and stringy systems. The mass and spin appear from excitations of the Kerr circular string, while the Dirac equation describes excitations of an axial stringy system which is responsible for scattering. Complex Kerr geometry contains an open tw...
متن کاملA Matrix Model for Black Hole Thermalization
We present a matrix model which is intended as a toy model of the gauge dual of an AdS black hole. In particular, it captures the key property that at infiniteN correlators decay to zero on long time scales, while at finite N this cannot happen. The model consists of a harmonic oscillator in the adjoint which acts as a heat bath for a particle in the fundamental representation. The Schwinger-Dy...
متن کاملA Matrix-Model Black Hole
In this paper the c = 1 matrix model deformed by a 1/x piece is discussed. Tachyon correlation functions are calculated up to genus two using methods similar to those for the undeformed case. The possible connection with the two dimensional black hole is also considered. In particular, restrictions on naked singularities imposed by the matrix model are found. CERN-TH.6916/93 June 1993
